Backup Outlook, Outlook Express, ICQ files
One of the most common backup problems is backing up the databases of mail clients and messengers that contain the user’s correspondence.
So, what are the difficulties with these databases?
Fist of all, the files containing the correspondence are private and kept securely among the other files in system folders where users usually do not work.
That is why selecting the files for backup it is easy to forget about those data files.
Secondly, many users do not know themselves which files contain databases of mail clients and messengers and where exactly they are on the disk.
So, even if the user wants to backup these files he/she can simply have no idea where to find them.
Backup Premium can solve both these problems: the program will automatically notify you about backing up the databases of Outlook, Outlook Express and ICQ.
Besides this, Backup Premium is "well-informed" about where to find the data files.
So, the user just need to select the necessary databases and everything else will be done by Backup Premium.
How to backup and restore the data files of Outlook Express
Outlook Express keeps the correspondence in .dbx files. For every mail folder (like Inbox, Outbox, Sent Items) Outlook Express creates a separate file (Inbox.dbx, Outbox.dbx, Sent Items.dbx) that contain letters from the corresponding folder. Usually these files are kept in the following folder:
"C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{B5881F49-C800-41FF-9540-732B011690FD}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\".
To backup Outlook Express data with Backup Premium, user just needs to select the corresponding menu item in backup properties. The program will take care of the rest.
To restore the backed up correspondence you just need to close Outlook Express and replace the .dbx files in the above-mentioned folder with the restored ones. On the next start of Outlook Express you can access the restored correspondence.
How to backup and restore the data files of MS Outlook
Microsoft Outlook keeps all the data (messages, calendar, tasks, etc) in single .pst file, e.g. "Personal Folders.pst". By default the .pst file is placed in the folder:
"C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\".
Please make note that it is impossible to copy the .pst file correctly when Outlook is being launched. So, for the correct backup of the .pst file you have to close Outlook first and then run the backup session.
To backup Outlook data, user just needs to select the corresponding menu item in backup properties. Backup Premium will take care of the rest.
To restore the Outlook data you can either replace the .pst file with the restored backed up file or point in Outlook where the restored .pst file is situated (e.g. in MS Outlook this can be done with the command "File->Data File Management …")
How to backup and restore the ICQ data files
Different versions of ICQ keep files containing the texts of messages in different places.
Older versions keep files in folders like "C:\Program Files\ICQ\2001a", where 2001a means the year of release and the version.
Recent versions (including ICQ Light) keep data files in the folder :
"C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\ICQ".
To restore the ICQ message history you just need to close ICQ and replace the data files in the corresponding folder with the restored backed up files.
